He Said Do You Speaka My Language?
I was talking with my cousin’s husband about how weird it is to know that there are folks out there who know the details of 3 years of my life, of whom I know very little, if anything, about.
So, on a whim, I asked my cousin and her husband to make me a CD each. Actually, I think I may have sort of demanded it. Knowing what a music junkie I am, they each separately balked at the idea. They both wanted to know what kind of CD they should make.
My response was that they should make me a CD of songs that they really, really like. I’m not in this to judge their musical taste or rate them on the cool and obscure nature of their choices. I’m not a music snob. I really believe that there isn’t a right or wrong answer when it comes to music. I don’t care if you like Caruso, Coltrane, Corrosion of Conformity or the Chemical Brothers. Just make me a CD that you would love to listen to alone in your car, rather than a CD that you think that I will like.
And then it crossed my mind: Why not open this up to anyone who is willing to let me get to know them a little? If you gotten something out of this site and would like to share a little about yourself, drop your favorite songs onto a CD, drop it in an envelope, and mail it to me.
If you don’t know the address, fire me an e-mail and I’ll get it to you.
Be sure to pen your Name and e-mail address or some identifying information the disc so that I know who sent what. Otherwise, I won’t be learning a damned thing about you, now will I?

Hi Honey, Would you like a CD of some of MY favorites. I don’t have a CD burner but I could probably give you the names of some of my favorites and YOU could burn me a CD and have one for yourself. What do you think of that. It might be a good exercise in using my brain instead of sleeping. Love you, baby boy. Mama
Editor’s Note: My mother left the only comment. I think any semblance of cool that I had is now officially gone. But, yes, Mom. I would love a CD.

CD is made, now just have to get it to Hull. With my mindset lately that could take months as mailing it 13 miles is just stupid to me. Maybe I could rent a carrier pigeon. Wait, I know, I will put the Monty Python could a swallow carry a coconut theory to work. Now where do I find a non-migratory african swallow. Shit! This is too hard. ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHH!
BTW - I have to now burn a second copy because the cd plays all the time in my car.
BTWW - This is so High Fidelity/high school. At least with burning a cd you don’t have to manually bring a tape past the clear beginning part and try to make the time between each song the same.
BTWWW - Any semblance of cool you ever had left your body when you put on your first skimmer.
PEACE!

Re: Editor’s Note. A) Your mom knows the phrase CD burner and used it correctly in a sentence. B) Your mom calls you baby boy. Semblance of Cool restored.

Thanks for the CD, Buzz. It speaks volumes.
And to everyone else who puts these things together, thanks for taking the time, and thanks for being honest with the choices on the discs. I can’t learn anything about you if you are trying to impress.
And to you people who read this stuff every day, how about letting me get to know you a little better? Put the stuff that gives you chills on a disc and send it. And don’t feel weird about it. You’ll make my day.
And QOB, thanks for the link. It was unexpected and appreciated.
